Cette maison d\u2019\u00e9dition sans but lucratif est situ\u00e9e en plein c\u0153ur de la ville de Phoenix, capital de l\u2019Arizona. Cet \u00e9tat frontalier avec le Mexique comporte une forte population latino-am\u00e9ricaine et chicano \u00e9tant donn\u00e9 son emplacement et son histoire. Notons que cet \u00e9tat faisait partie du Mexique avant la guerre am\u00e9ricano-mexicaine qui s\u2019acheva en 1848. Cette portion des \u00c9tats-Unis est donc \u00e0 cheval entre deux pays, un terrain propice aux \u00e9changes culturels. C\u2019est d\u2019ailleurs sur ces \u00e9changes culturels que le <a href=\"https:\/\/cardboardhousepress.org\/\">Cardboard House Press<\/a> veut miser en se consacrant au d\u00e9veloppement et \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation de m\u00e9dias afin de r\u00e9aliser des \u00e9changes culturels entre les communaut\u00e9s. Ce projet cartonero a pour objectif de valoriser et de diffuser la litt\u00e9rature hispanophone en provenance d\u2019Am\u00e9rique latine et d\u2019Espagne. Pour ce faire, tous les ouvrages publi\u00e9s par la maison d\u2019\u00e9dition sont bilingues (Anglais-Espagnol) dans l\u2019optique de rejoindre le plus grand nombre. Cette ouverture du mouvement cartonera aux anglophones fait aussi la particularit\u00e9 et la force de ce projet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Des auteur.e.s d\u2019Argentine, de Colombie, de Cuba, du Chili, d\u2019Espagne, du Guatemala, du Mexique, du P\u00e9rou, de Puerto Rico et d\u2019Uruguay ont ainsi \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9s dans les deux langues. Pour se financer, le Cardboard House Press a mis en place un onglet <em><a href=\"https:\/\/cardboardhousepress.org\/Donate\">donate<\/a><\/em> afin de solliciter l\u2019aide du public. Il est \u00e9galement soutenu par des associations et entreprises vari\u00e9es comme en atteste son site internet. Parmi les partenaires \u00e9conomiques, nous retrouvons la National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures, la Arizona Commission on the Arts, la Andrew W. Cela participe activement \u00e0 l\u2019affirmation culturelle de ces communaut\u00e9s qui, bien qu\u2019implant\u00e9es dans la r\u00e9gion depuis longtemps, restent dans une position socio-\u00e9conomique et politique fragile de fa\u00e7on disproportionn\u00e9e en comparaison \u00e0 d\u2019autres populations. L\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l\u2019emploi, la barri\u00e8re linguistique, et les politiques migratoires figurent parmi les obstacles rencontr\u00e9s par beaucoup encore aujourd\u2019hui. La maison d\u2019\u00e9dition, par sa mission, tente de pallier cette r\u00e9alit\u00e9 en misant sur l\u2019acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la culture. Les participant.e.s aux ateliers vont, en plus d\u2019\u00eatre en contact direct avec des \u0153uvres internationales, participer \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration de leur propre \u0153uvre. Ainsi, le projet rassemble jeunes et moins jeunes autour du mouvement Cartonera latino-am\u00e9ricain au sein d\u2019un pays qui en compte tr\u00e8s peu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.univ-tlse2.fr\/arts-innovation-amerique-latine\/files\/2021\/03\/tallere.jpg\" alt=\"L\u2019attribut alt de cette image est vide, son nom de fichier est tallere.jpg.\" \/><figcaption>Membres du collectif participant \u00e0 un atelier de confection cartonero<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>En avril 2020, dans un <a href=\"https:\/\/readingintranslation.com\/2020\/04\/27\/cardboard-conscious-translation-in-community\/?fbclid=IwAR2Sc9y2mhxNQhwZcjpJdYxWuD_rqfRMdoo5iycs1Y9lTS3QE0BJZddORLw\">article<\/a> publi\u00e9 sur le site <em>Reading in Translation<\/em> la traductrice et po\u00e8te Kelsi Vanada donne son impression du collectif Arizonien et du mouvement cartonera qu\u2019elle associe \u00e0 la contre-culture. Elle relate comment le collectif a fait de la confection de livres en mati\u00e8res recycl\u00e9es, une fa\u00e7on de rassembler les gens qui vont renverser les structures de pouvoir \u00e9conomique et id\u00e9ologique, incluant celles du monde litt\u00e9raire. Elle fait aussi allusion \u00e0 l\u2019aspect linguistique et \u00e9cologique du projet&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>In addition, the Collective\u2019s work engages in creating solidarity with Latin American cartoneras, and in recognizing Spanish as a language of the United States. This social statement is complemented by an environmental one: the Collective is reusing materials in a country where climate change is categorically disputed or ignored, and that in and of itself is reason enough for the Collective\u2019s work. Much of the cardboard the Collective uses comes from condom boxes shipped to a local LGBTQ+ health clinic.<\/em><\/p><cite>KElsi vanada<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>La question de la diffusion internationale, et surtout des enjeux de la traduction culturelle\/du bilinguisme est un axe fort de ce projet cartonero. Les multiples traductions et ouvrages disponibles dans le <a href=\"https:\/\/cardboardhousepress.org\/Catalog\">catalogue<\/a> en t\u00e9moignent, mais \u00e9galement les \u00e9v\u00e9nements organis\u00e9s en collaboration avec d\u2019autres associations comme le <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.palabrasbookstore.com\/\">Palabras Bilingual Bookstore<\/a><\/em>. Le <em>Phoenix Mag, <\/em>un magazine local, couvre ces \u00e9v\u00e9nements qui peuvent prendre la forme de rencontres litt\u00e9raires bilingues. C\u2019est dans le cadre de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixmag.com\/2017\/10\/04\/q-a-with-chilean-writer-alejandro-zambra-in-phoenix-for-residency\/\">l\u2019une de ces rencontres<\/a> que l\u2019un des auteurs chiliens les plus acclam\u00e9s, Alejandro Zambra, est all\u00e9 en Arizona en 2017 afin d\u2019\u00e9changer sur son \u0153uvre. Interrog\u00e9 sur les traductions de ses livres, l\u2019auteur chilien r\u00e9pond&nbsp;:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>I do not write to be translated; it always surprises me that my books reach readers of other languages, especially those I completely ignore, which are the majority. I am very grateful to the translators. Let\u2019s say I can only read the translations into English, Italian and Portuguese, but the language [beside my native Spanish] I more or less speak is English. I was lucky enough to meet a great reader like Megan McDowell [who translated Zambra\u2019s works from Spanish to English]. I am sure that if she wrote, her novels would be better than mine.<\/em><\/p><cite>Alejandro Zambra<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>L\u2019effet de surprise et de reconnaissance atteste de l\u2019importance de ces traductions chez des auteur.e.s connus. Le fait de aussi proposer des traductions de cartoneras va dans le sens de la philosophie de la maison d\u2019\u00e9dition, soit de briser le moule et de donner \u00e0 la litt\u00e9rature une nouvelle dimension. Une dimension internationale et pluriculturelle dans laquelle des communaut\u00e9s marginalis\u00e9es trouvent leur place en \u00e9tant au c\u0153ur de ce projet. Sur leur site, on explique bien comment cette diffusion internationale qui, jointe au travail artisanal des participant.e.s, profite \u00e0 tout le monde et fait la fiert\u00e9 du Cardboard House Press:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>Some of our publications are made by hand in community-based workshops. These workshops not only expand the audience for the books we publish, but they also provide a hands-on experience with the work in which individuals participate in production and develop connections to the work. Workshop participants learn to hand sew pages to bind them, marble paint end papers, and create book covers from recycled cardboard. We are proud to be part of the Latin America cartonera movement and to be one of few cartonera projects in the US.<\/em><\/p><cite>Cardboard house press<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>En participant aux ateliers, les membres de la communaut\u00e9 vont ainsi acqu\u00e9rir des capacit\u00e9s artistiques, mais surtout, ils s\u2019ins\u00e8rent dans une dynamique de relations culturelles \u00e0 plusieurs \u00e9chelles. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle locale, cela permet de tisser ces relations entre les diff\u00e9rentes communaut\u00e9s hispanophones et anglophones en Arizona en mettant l\u2019accent sur la traduction. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle nationale, ce projet est assez bien implant\u00e9 afin de devenir un exemple \u00e0 suivre pour de potentiels projets du m\u00eame type ailleurs au pays. \u00c0 savoir que le <a href=\"https:\/\/researchguides.library.wisc.edu\/cartoneras\/cartonerapublishers\">site de l\u2019Universit\u00e9 du Wisconsin<\/a>, qui recense les projets cartoneros du monde entier, fait \u00e9tat de seulement trois autres projets aux \u00c9tats-Unis&nbsp;: <em>La Tetra Cartonera<\/em> au Nouveau Mexique, le <em>Memphis Cartonera<\/em> au Tennessee et la <em>Rosalita Cartonera<\/em> dans le Wisconsin. Finalement, \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9chelle internationale, cela l\u00e9gitimise la place des \u00c9tats-Unis au sein du mouvement cartonera qui se limitait auparavant aux pays d\u2019Am\u00e9rique latine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En ce qui concerne les r\u00e9seaux sociaux, les pages Facebook, Instagram et Twitter de l\u2019organisation sont tr\u00e8s actives. Les nouveaut\u00e9s y sont partag\u00e9es et des \u00e9v\u00e9nements de toutes sortes y sont affich\u00e9s.
