The aim of this conference is to define the state of the art in the discussion of justice in the distribution of health resources. For example, what is the right “currency” of justice in health : health care, all determinants and resources for health, Quality-Adjusted Life Years, health-related quality of life, something else ? And what is the right “pattern” : equality, sufficiency, priority to the worse-off, what the demos deliberately elects ?

The meeting comprises plenary sessions with guest speakers and discussants on normative issues surrounding the justification and scope of distributive justice in health within the main theories of egalitarian thought.

The plenary sessions will be followed by workshops on both philosophical and more practical topics. Guest speakers and discussants will take part in these workshops. Researchers, students, and health practitioners whose proposals are accepted would be invited to present 20 minute-long papers. Contributions from all social and health sciences, as well from practitioners and activists, with clear bearing on normative questions in political theory are welcome.

There will also be a Book Symposium on Shlomi Segall’s Health, Luck, and Justice (Princeton University Press, 2009), with comments by some of the speakers.

Guidelines for submission
