Alors que\nles technologies de la traduction sont d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien int\u00e9gr\u00e9es dans le quotidien du\ntraducteur (Pym 2011), et que la traduction automatique (en particulier\nneuronale) est \u00e0 l\u2019origine de changements de grande ampleur dans le m\u00e9tier\n(Champsaur 2013, Rossi & Chevrot 2019), le num\u00e9ro 8 de La Main de Th\u00f4t<\/em>\na pour objectif de refl\u00e9ter les questionnements, les pratiques et les enjeux\nn\u00e9s du croisement entre les nouvelles technologies de la traduction (outils de\nTraduction Assist\u00e9e par Ordinateur, corpus \u00e9lectroniques et Traduction\nAutomatique) et les domaines sp\u00e9cifiques de la traduction litt\u00e9raire et de la\ntraduction Sciences Humaines et Sociales, qui sont traditionnellement associ\u00e9s\nau biotraducteur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tr\u00e8s\nr\u00e9cemment, de nombreuses manifestations se sont int\u00e9ress\u00e9es aux nouvelles\ntechnologies et \u00e0 leur impact sur nos pratiques traductives et p\u00e9dagogiques,\nainsi qu\u2019\u00e0 leur influence sur la th\u00e9orisation de la traduction. Pour n\u2019en citer\nque quelques-unes : un des ateliers du Sommet de l\u2019Association europ\u00e9enne\npour la traduction automatique (EAMT) qui en ao\u00fbt 2019 \u00e0 Dublin \u00e9tait d\u00e9di\u00e9 aux\nqualit\u00e9s de la traduction litt\u00e9raire automatique ; l\u2019un des axes du congr\u00e8s de\nla soci\u00e9t\u00e9 europ\u00e9enne de traductologie (EST) de septembre 2019 (qui avait pour\ntitre \u00ab Living translation – people, processus, products \u00bb) et\nconcernait les technologies de la traduction pour la traduction de textes\ncr\u00e9atifs ; deux Workshops organis\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019Universit\u00e9 de Swansea en janvier et mai\n2019 sur la \u00ab Traduction Litt\u00e9raire Assist\u00e9e par Ordinateur \u00bb, qui\nd\u00e9boucheront en avril prochain sur le premier colloque CALT (Computer-Assisted\nLiterary Translation). Les \u00e9tudiants sont \u00e9galement convi\u00e9s \u00e0 participer \u00e0\ncette dynamique, comme le prouve l\u2019organisation au Canada de la Glendon\nGraduate Student Conference in Translation Studies le 14 mars 2020 \u00e0 York\nUniversity (Toronto) intitul\u00e9e \u00ab Facing the future – Transation and\nTechnology \u00bb. Des travaux r\u00e9cents, \u00e0 l\u2019instar de l\u2019article de J. Moorkens\net al. \u00ab Translators\u2019 Perceptions of Literary Post-editing using\nStatistical and Neural Machine Translation \u00bb publi\u00e9 en 2018 dans Translation\nSpaces<\/em>, articulent ainsi TA et traduction litt\u00e9raire, tandis que la\ntraduction SHS est \u00e9galement l\u2019objet de r\u00e9flexions comme en t\u00e9moigne la\nparution du n\u00b0 33 de la revue Palimpsestes enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9di\u00e9 \u00e0 cette question,\nou les manifestations port\u00e9es par Bruno Poncharal dans l\u2019\u00e9quipe TRACT (Centre\nde recherche en traduction et communication transculturelle) de Paris 3 \u2013\nSorbonne Nouvelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ce num\u00e9ro\ns\u2019inscrit dans cette r\u00e9flexion actuelle et collective et prend place dans les\nrecherches men\u00e9es par Carole Filli\u00e8re et Am\u00e9lie Josselin-Leray dans le cadre\ndes activit\u00e9s du Centre de Traduction, Interpr\u00e9tation et M\u00e9diation linguistique\nde l\u2019universit\u00e9 Jean Jaur\u00e8s et des laboratoires CLLE et LLA-CREATIS. Il est\nl\u2019extension d\u2019une journ\u00e9e d\u2019\u00e9tudes int\u00e9gr\u00e9e au programme des Ateliers Traduire\nl\u2019Europe de la DGT de la Commission Europ\u00e9enne, qui a eu lieu \u00e0 Toulouse le 07\nf\u00e9vrier 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Cet appel\n\u00e0 contribution entend cr\u00e9er une r\u00e9flexion sur plusieurs fronts :\ndidactique, traductive, traductologique, technologique, philosophique. Il\ns\u2019adresse ainsi en particulier aux traducteurs professionnels et enseignants-chercheurs des Masters de\ntraduction professionnelle s\u2019int\u00e9ressant aux technologies de la traduction (TA,\nTAO, corpus) ou \u00e0 la traduction litt\u00e9raire ou SHS, afin d\u2019associer leurs\nperspectives dans le num\u00e9ro 2020 de notre revue. Espace d\u2019\u00e9change des id\u00e9es et\ndes m\u00e9thodes, La Main de Th\u00f4t<\/em> entend proposer des pistes pour la\n\u00ab r\u00e9conciliation \u00bb ou simplement la \u00ab conciliation \u00bb entre\nles technologies de la traduction et ces domaines habituellement consid\u00e9r\u00e9s\ncomme \u00ab trop \u00bb cr\u00e9atifs pour la machine : la litt\u00e9rature et les\nSHS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Les\n\u00e9tudiants pourront \u00e9galement participer \u00e0 ce num\u00e9ro, encadr\u00e9s par leur(s)\nenseignant(s) et proposer une contribution pour la rubrique \u00ab La parole\naux \u00e9tudiants \u00bb. Quant aux traducteurs professionnels et\/ou universitaires\npratiquant la traduction, la rubrique \u00ab Propos de traducteurs \u00bb a\nvocation \u00e0 accueillir leurs \u00e9crits, plus en prise sur des consid\u00e9rations\npratiques ou des r\u00e9flexions personnelles. With this in mind, the editors of issue #8 of La Main de Th\u00f4t<\/em> are calling for papers reflecting upon the\nissues in, methods of and perspectives on using the latest translation\ntechnologies (CAT tools, electronic corpora and Machine Translation) for two\nparticular types of translation which are traditionally associated with the\nbiotranslator: literary translation and human and social science Translation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the last couple of months, a great number of\nscientific events have dealt with the impact of new technologies on the act of\ntranslating, on the teaching of translation and on translation theory. To quote\nbut a few: one of the workshops of the European Association for Machine\nTranslation Summit which took place in Dublin in August 2019 was dedicated to\nthe \u201cQualities of Literary Machine Translation\u201d; one of the panels of the\nEuropean Society for Translation Studies Congress which took place in September\n2019 entitled \u201cLiving translation – people, processus, products\u201d focused on\ntranslation technologies for the translation of creative texts; two workshops\nwere organized at the University of Swansea in January and May 2019 on\n\u201cComputer-Assisted Literary Translation\u201d, leading to the first CALT\n(Computer-Assisted Literary Translation) conference due to take place in April\n2020. Students are also involved in this dynamic process, as shown by the\norganizing of the Glendon Graduate Student Conference in Translation Studies at\nYork University (Toronto, Canada) in March 2020 entitled \u201cFacing the future –\nTranslation and Technology\u201d. Some recent papers, such as the one by J. Moorkens\nand al. entitled \u201cTranslators\u2019 Perceptions of Literary Post-editing using\nStatistical and Neural Machine Translation\u201d published in 2018 in Translation Spaces<\/em> clearly associate machine\ntranslation and literary translation, while the translation of human and social\nscience has been the focus of recent studies (see for instance the latest issue\nof Palimpsestes<\/em>, #33, which is\nexclusively devoted to that topic, including also the translation of philosophy)\nor of recent events such as the ones organized by Bruno Poncharal within the\nTRACT research team at University Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Issue #8 of La Main de Th\u00f4t<\/em>,\nto be published at the end of 2020, is part of this collective trend and is in\nkeeping with the research led by Carole Filli\u00e8re and Am\u00e9lie Josselin-Leray\nwithin the Translation Department (Centre de Traduction, Interpr\u00e9tation et\nM\u00e9diation linguistique, CeTIM) and the research teams CLLE and LLA-CREATIS at\nUniversity Toulouse Jean Jaur\u00e8s. It follows up some of the questions raised by\na one-day conference they organised at Jean Jaur\u00e8s University on 7th February\n2020 which was part of the \u2018Translating Europe\u2019 program of workshops and was\njointly sponsored by the European Commission, the CETIM and the French\nAssociation for Professional Translation Courses in Higher Education (AFFUMT). <\/p>\n\n\n\n The editors of this issue welcome papers focusing on\nthe following levels of analysis: the teaching of translation, the practice of\ntranslation, translation studies, technological developments and philosophical\nissues. Professional translators and academics teaching in Master\u2019s in\nTranslation programmes and specializing either in translation technologies (MT,\nCAT tools and corpora) or in literary or human and social science translation\nare particularly encouraged to send their contributions, so that their\nperspectives can be compared. La Main de\nTh\u00f4t<\/em>, as a space for exchanging ideas and methods, intends to suggest ways\nof \u201creconciling\u201d or simply \u201cconciliating\u201d translation technologies and fields\nthat are usually considered as being \u201ctoo\u201d creative for the machine, i.e.\nliterature, and human and social sciences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n It is also possible for students (if supervised by\ntheir professors) to contribute to this issue by writing a paper for the\nsection called \u00ab La parole aux \u00e9tudiants \u00bb. As for practicing\ntranslators (be they independent or academic), they are invited to contribute\nto the \u00ab Propos de traducteurs \u00bb section of the journal.
