The French Second Language Acquisition Network (ReAL2) brings together researchers and teacher-researchers working in universities and laboratories in France whose work focuses on the acquisition of second languages.

Research in second language acquisition (REAL2) is characterized by a diversification of theoretical and methodological approaches. Thus, the goal of the network is to highlight this diversity through comparisons of results from different approaches and different methodologies. In addition, the network aims to put the results into language acquisition in a didactic perspective and to develop the acquisition / didactic interface. Moreover, the network’s long-term goal is to create a database of acquired oral and written data collected from past and current projects, with corpora often dispersed and not accessible to the scientific community.

ReAL2 was set up on the initiative of 4 founding teams, which are the University of Paris 8 & SFL UMR7023, the University of Toulouse & Octogone-Lordat EA4156, the University of Nantes & LLING UMR6310 as well as the University of Montpellier & EMMA741.
