L’ATHIP (Atelier Transatlantique d’Histoire Intellectuelle et Politique) est un séminaire de recherche co-fondé par Françoise Coste, Léa Stephan, Rachel Rogers et Alexandra Sippel en 2013. Depuis 2021, il est animé par Hilary Sanders, Rachel Rogers et Alexandra Sippel. Il s’inscrit dans l’Axe 3 (Crises et Reconfigurations) du Laboratoire CAS (EA 801) dont nous sommes membres. Nous organisons un séminaire mensuel entre octobre et juin, ainsi que des journées d’études thématiques, parfois adossées aux programmes de l’agrégation externe d’anglais.
Après plusieurs années à travailler sur le thème de la démocratie et des mouvements populaires et/ou radicaux dans l’espace atlantique, essentiellement britannique et états-unien, nous nous tournons depuis cette année 2021-2022 vers une nouvelle question: la construction des communs. Pour cette année inaugurale sur ce nouveau thème, nous avons chacune proposé une conférence d’une heure environ afin d’affiner nos orientations de recherches pour les années à venir.

ATHIP (Workshop of Transatlantic Intellectual and Political History) is a research seminar that was originally created by Françoise Coste, Léa Stephan, Rachel Rogers and Alexandra Sippel in 2013. It is now animated by Hilary Sanders, Rachel Rogers and Alexandra Sippel. ATHIP is part of the Axe 3 (Crises and Reconfigurations) of the CAS laboratory (EA 801, Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès). We organise monthly sessions from October/November to June, as well as one-day conferences, sometimes dedicated to the themes addressed in the programmes of national competitive exams for would-be teachers.
For the first few years, we worked on the question of democracy and popular or radical movement in the Atlantic world, mainly in the British Isles and the USA. From this year onwards, our main topic will be « Constructing the Commons. » As 2021-2022 was the first year dedicated to this new question, we chose to just have a three conference programme, and to each propose a one-hour lecture on an aspect that we found of interest.
